Nancy Dunkin received her BA in music education with a piano major from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, CO, where she was named Outstanding Piano Major. Her master of music education degree is from the University of Colorado in Boulder. She has eighty hours beyond her master’s in a variety of pedagogical fields from a variety of schools all over the United States. She is certified in Kodály, Orff, and Kindermusick, and she has training in Dalcroze, all of which are teaching methodologies for young children.
She was in music education in the public school system for thirty-three years, most of them in Jefferson County Schools, teaching at all three levels. She was a music resource specialist for the Rockefeller Foundation, coordinating music and arts in the Jefferson County Schools and working out of the administration building. Her primary area of interest was elementary general music and early childhood education. She developed curricula at the local, state, and national levels. Throughout her career, she taught piano privately with a short hiatus while her children were growing up.
